How to Make Blackened Redfish at Home

How to Make Blackened Redfish at Home

Ingredients

  • 2 redfish fillets (skin-on, about 6-8 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a small bowl to make the blackening seasoning.

Step 2

Preheat a cast-iron skillet over high heat until it starts to smoke.

Step 3

Brush the redfish fillets with melted butter, then dip each fillet in the blackening seasoning mix, making sure to coat both sides.

Step 4

Add the vegetable oil to the skillet and swirl to coat the bottom. Place the fillets in the skillet skin-side down.

Step 5

Cook for about 3-4 minutes, then flip the fillets over and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until the fish is cooked through and the seasoning is blackened.

Step 6

Remove the fillets from the skillet and let them rest for a minute or two.

Step 7

Serve the blackened redfish fillets hot with your favorite sides, such as rice and vegetables.
